Jaipur: Aiming to meet the shortage of doctors in government hospitals, the Rajasthan Medical Education Department has announced the implementation of a new bond policy in all government medical colleges run under the Government and Rajasthan Medical Education Society (RajMES) from the academic session 2025-2026.

Under this bond system, the medical students pursuing postgraduation (PG) will have to submit a service bond undertaking of Rs 25 lakh to Rs 1.5 crore at the time of admission, depending on their specialities. They will have to pay the bond amount if they do not wish to serve in the State Government hospitals for two years after completing their course.

The bond amount was Rs 25 lakh until now. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that earlier this year, the State Medical Education Department made it compulsory for the doctors completing PG degrees and super-speciality programs from Rajasthan Government or Rajasthan Medical Education Society (RajMES) medical colleges to serve at medical college-affiliated hospitals for two years.

In this regard, the Rajasthan Medical Education Department had issued an order specifying the guidelines on counselling. At the time of admission to the PG and super-speciality courses, the students must submit a service bond of Rs 25 lakh with an assurance to serve the State for two years, the order had mentioned.

As per the latest media report by Live Hindustan, after protests, the bond amount was reduced to Rs 10 lakh. However, even at that time, the State had kept the period of mandatory government service at two years only. Now, the State has increased the bond amount by six times and has fixed different amounts for different specialisations.

Bond Amount Depending on Specialization:

The new order specified that for the students pursuing Dermatology (Skin & VD), Radio-diagnosis, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General Medicine, the bond amount will be Rs 1.5 crore.

Students pursuing specialties including Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, TB and Chest, Ophthalmology, Traumatology, General Surgery, Psychiatry will have to pay a Rs 1 crore bond.

For the students pursuing specialties Otorhinolaryngology (ENT), Emergency medicine, Radiation oncology, Nuclear medicine, Anaesthesia, Palliative medicine, Pathology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR), Immunohematology, Microbiology the service bond amount has been fixed at Rs 50 lakh and for those pursuing specialties including Biochemistry, Community medicine, Forensic medicine, Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology the bond amount will be Rs 25 lakh.

As per the state government, under this new policy, the patients in rural areas and small towns will be able to avail health services like big hospitals. The Department mentioned that with this new policy, the quality of health services will also reach a higher level in the coming years, and the requirement for specialist doctors in the State for serious diseases and complex surgeries will be met.
