Relief for FMGs: Rajasthan medical council opens applications for vacant internship seats, details

Jaipur: In good news for medical graduates, the Rajasthan Medical Council (RMC) has invited online applications for Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) to apply for vacant Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) seats.
In a notice issued on June 15, 2026, the council stated that the medicos can submit applications online through the RMC portal from June 18, 2026, at 12:00 PM to June 22, 2026, at 12:00 midnight.
A correction window will be available from June 25 to June 26, 2026, allowing applicants to rectify any mistakes in their submitted forms. The list of candidates selected for document verification will be published on June 29, 2026.
Document verification will be conducted between July 1 and July 4, 2026. The internship seat allotment process is scheduled for July 10, 2026, while the last date to join the allotted internship institute is July 31, 2026.
The Council stated that internship seats will be allotted on a priority basis to FMGs domiciled in Rajasthan who have qualified the National Board of Examinations (NBE) eligibility examination. After accommodating eligible Rajasthan candidates, the remaining seats may be allotted to qualified FMGs from other states based on their applications.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that several medical graduates from abroad protested at the Rajasthan Medical Council headquarters after the Council reportedly halted their permanent registration, citing their online classes during their undergraduate medical course. The students alleged that despite passing the screening test i.e. Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE), which is mandatory to practice medicine in India, the RMC Registrar has withheld their registration.
Following this, representatives from All India Medical Students Association Foreign Medical Students Wing (AIMSA-FMSW) and All FMGs Association (AFA) met with the registrar of RMC on June 15, 2026, which led to the release of the recent notice.
Previously, AIMSA-FMSW submitted a representation requesting the immediate commencement of internship, grant of permanent registration to eligible FMGs, and stipend parity for FMGs in Rajasthan as per NMC notifications, clarifications, and FAQ dated 08.06.2026.
The NMC FAQ dated 08.06.2026 specifically clarifies that
i. Compensation can be undertaken during any period of the medical course and is not restricted to any specific timeline.
ii. NMC has no objection to online classes of any duration, provided the disrupted period has been adequately compensated by the parent university.
iii. FMGs possessing valid compensation certificates issued by their parent universities and who have completed their examinations in offline mode are eligible for the benefit prescribed under NMC guidelines.
iv. The determination of adequate compensation rests with the parent university that conducted and certified such compensation.
Further, the association stated that the NMC has clarified that the 10-year course completion cap is applicable prospectively to students from 2020 and subsequent batches and should not be applied retrospectively to earlier batches who completed their education under previous regulatory frameworks.
Now, the recent announcement regarding the internship has brought relief to many FMGs who were awaiting internship opportunities, as it is an essential requirement for obtaining registration and beginning medical practice in India.
Commenting on this, Dr Samar Kumar, Vice President, AIMSA-FMSW National Team, told Medical Dialogues, "The Registrar assured us that, in light of the latest NMC guidelines and FAQ clarifications, permanent registration will be granted to all eligible FMGs in accordance with the regulations. We sincerely thank all FMGs who joined and supported today’s movement in Rajasthan. We also raised the issue of the internship stipend. Our delegation visited the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) and submitted an official representation requesting timely and fair payment of stipend to FMG interns. We urge the concerned authorities to act promptly and ensure that FMGs receive the stipend they deserve during their internship period."
