RGUHS claims lawyer represented University without authorisation before HC in 2011 PG medical entrance scam, files complaint
Bengaluru: In a strange development regarding the sensational Postgraduate medical entrance examination scam at Vijaynagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) back in 2011, the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) has now claimed that a lawyer appeared on the behalf of the University at the High Court without any authorisation and tried to derail the case and help the accused.
Filing a complaint before the Police, the University has now alleged that the accused Shivakumar S. Badwadagu has been appearing in cases related to the 2011 scam before the Dharwad Bench of the High Court.
It has been claimed by the University that by appearing on behalf of RGUHS without any authorisation, the accused has been tampering with the evidence in order to get judgments in the favour of the accused in the 2011 scam.
The 2011 scam had came to light when some candidates had complained about alleged malpractices in conduct of the exam after results showed the 11 top ranks were bagged by those who had appeared at VIMS' centre. At that time, seven doctors and 10 students had been arrested last week for their alleged involvement in the scam.
Police officials had confirmed to PTI that the accused had allegedly been indulging in the fraud for the past three years with the connivance of the Staff of the RGUHS and had helped many candidates secure ranks in the PGET exam. CID took the charge of the investigation from the police and started probing the matter.
The cases in this connection were facing trials before the High Court bench and in this regard, RGUHS has now made a very strange claim alleging that a lawyer Shivakumar appeared on the behalf of the University without any authorisation in order to manipulate the evidence and help the accused.
As per the latest media report by The Hindu, RGUHS came to know about this when it reviewed the cases to find out that it was losing many of the cases. After probing the matter, the University found out that Shivakumar had been representing the University without the required consent of the legal departent or the concerned officials.
Lodging a complaint before the Tilak Nagar Police, the Registrar (Administration) of RGUHS, M.R. Ravikumar has now claimed that "The lawyer has helped and has been successful in getting all 11 cases disposed off in favour of the accused in the cases."
On the basis of the complaint, the Police on Friday booked the concerned lawyer Shivakumar for the charges of cheating, causing disappearance of evidence and impersonation. The Police has informed the daily about transferring the case to the proper juridictional police in Dharwad for probing the matter.
