Rs 5000 fee for provisional, Rs 2000 for permanent degree now made free by MP Varsity, 2016 batch MBBS students demand similar relief
Indore: Bringing good news to the Medical students in the State, Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University (MPMSU) has now implemented a major slash in the degree fees from August 1, 2022.
While earlier the cost for a provisional degree was more than Rs 5,000 and Rs 2,000 for a permanent degree, the University has now made it free for students to get these degrees, reports FPJ.
Several students had earlier applied for degrees by paying Rs 7,000- Rs 8,000 and in fact, the NRI quota students had to pay more than Rs 3 lakh. However, these fees have now come down to a mere Rs 75, which is the portal charges.
Although this is undoubtedly a major relief for the medical students, the students of 2016 batch upset with the University which had allegedly not announced about its decision of reducing the fees.

As per the latest media report by the Free Press Journal, many students who recently paid around Rs 8,000 for getting their degrees want to reapply and they have also urged the University to take a decision regarding the money that they had deposited before August 1. They also complained about the fact that the University had not made any prior announcement regarding its decision for reducing the fees.
While commenting on the matter, one of the students told the daily, "We've paid Rs 8,000 for the work before August 1 and, now, the MPMSU has made it free. We've mailed the university officials to take appropriate action on this issue as it has left us with a feeling of being 'fooled' to pay the fees early."
Opining that the University should give back the "extra" money, Dr Virendra Singh Solanki, student leader of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad said, "The MPMSU must take decisions for the welfare of the students. If some students have deposited extra money, the university must take appropriate action to provide relief to them."
Meanwhile, the Univeristy Registrar Prabhat Budholia informed the daily "We've taken the decision of providing provisional degrees and permanent degrees to the students for free. The decision was taken for the welfare of the students and the notification came into effect on August 1. Some students who deposited the fees before August 1 have contacted us and we'll see if we can help them in any way."
Dr Manohar Bhandari, a retired faculty member of MGM Medical College has opined that the University should decrease other fees as well since it would be beneficial for the students who can't afford it.
He said, "We've written to the university to decrease the charges of the other facilities, as well. Decreasing those charges would be in favour of the students as many of them can't afford it. The MPMSU must act immediately on cutting down other charges, as well."
