Unable to get MBBS admission, BAMS student commits suicide
Vijayawada: In a tragic incident, a 20-year-old BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) student who failed to secure an MBBS seat allegedly committed suicide by jumping from a moving train near Rayadurgam in Anantapur.
According to a TOI news report, the student felt distressed because she couldn't gain admission to a medical college. Instead, she secured a spot at an Ayurveda college in Chitradurga, where she studied Ayurvedic medical science. Not satisfied with the outcome, the student decided to take her life.
The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon. The student, who hailed from Sedam town in Karnataka's Kalaburagi district, reportedly boarded a train from Bengaluru to Hospet via Rayadurgam and jumped from the fast-moving train near a garden on Rayadurgam's outskirts.
Due to the impact of the fall, she died on the spot and her body was discovered near the tracks the next day morning by a railway hangman, reports TOI.
According to the police, the student had arrived in Chitradurga on Tuesday morning to continue her studies at the Ayurvedic college. Before taking her life, she contacted her parents at around 1 pm after boarding the train to Hospet and informed them about her will to not live anymore since she had failed to secure an MBBS admission.
After the phone call, her parents became worried and made several attempts to reach her. Following this, they informed the Karnataka police and a search operation was initiated immediately. They were able to track her from her mobile phone location. By the time, they discovered her, she was gone.
After confirming her identity, the police informed her parents and registered a case. An investigation is underway.
