MGM Indore MBBS student commits suicide, parents allege harassment by roommates
Ujjain: In an unfortunate incident, a 20 year old MBBS student of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College in Indore, also a NEET UG Topper allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling at his residence in Vasant Vihar Colony of Ujjain.
According to the parents, the student was suffering from depression due to harassment by his roommates in their shared rental apartment. His mother claimed that he endured this mistreatment for around four months. She stated that her son was troubled by the behaviour of his two roommates, who allegedly tried to force their religious beliefs on him, contributing to his mental distress.

It was alleged that the student did not share his troubled feelings with his parents or younger sister instead he discussed it with his cousin via WhatsApp. In a WhatsApp chat, he had reportedly written, "Shoot my roommates." He also mentioned his struggles with depression, explaining that he had returned to his home in Ujjain because he could no longer endure the harassment, as per ETV Bharat news report.
The deceased student topped the NEET exam in Ujjain two years ago but unfortunately took his life on Tuesday afternoon when he home alone. His father is a professor at an engineering college and his mother is a teacher at a school. They both went to work in the morning and his sister was also at school. At the chance of being alone, he allegedly committed suicide.
Later, the police were informed when the parents discovered their son's body. A preliminary investigation was conducted by the police upon their arrival. No suicide note was recovered and his body was sent for postmortem.
According to the police, the student before taking the extreme step searched online for methods to commit suicide. They recovered WhatsApp chats with his cousin which led to the discovery of hints that his roommates allegedly harassed him. The police have seized his phone for further investigation and are reviewing the WhatsApp messages.
Nanakheda police station in-charge Narendra Yadav told News9live, "He was experiencing distress related to his roommate’s unsettling behaviour. Although he did not discuss this issue with his immediate family, he did confide in his cousin via WhatsApp."
Following the incident, his parents approached the Superintendent of Police Pradeep Sharma and demanded strict action against the culprits. Based on their complaint, the police registered a case and are investigating the incident from every possible angle.
