UP FMGs protest over Inadequate Internship Seats

FMG Internship in Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow: Foreign Medical Graduates are protesting in Lucknow over inadequate internship seats available in the State. So far, the Uttar Pradesh Medical Council (UPMC) has released only around 800 internship seats.
Since more than 1,000 medical graduates from abroad have already applied for the FMG internship in Uttar Pradesh, hundreds of students are left without a seat.
"FMGs have been waiting to start their internship for five months. This delay is not only causing them mental stress but also hampering their careers. This is a grave injustice to students who are working hard for their future," the President of Doctor Welfare Federation (DWF), UP, Dr. Shudhanshu Pandey told Medical Dialogues. Dr. Pandey said that more than 500 FMGs are fighting for the seats.
Today, DWF (UP) wrote to the Registrar of the Uttar Pradesh Medical Council (UPMC) and highlighted the issue of inadequate internship seats that is affecting thousands of students.
In the letter dated 16.06.2025, the association pointed out that according to NMC, there are over 2,500 internship seats available for FMGs in Uttar Pradesh. Yet, only around 800 seats have been released so far.

DWF termed the situation as "extremely worrying", pointing out that "over 1,000 FMGs have applied and have also paid an application fee of Rs 6,000 each".

Mentioning how the delay is affecting the FMGs, who have been waiting to start their internship for five months, the association requested the UPMC Registrar to pay immediate attention to the issue and instruct the concerned authorities to increase the number of available seats so that the internship opportunity is provided to the students on time.
The All FMGs Association also raised the issue. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the association mentioned, "Uttar Pradesh has over 2,500 internship seats available for FMGs as per @NMC_BHARAT, yet only around 800 have been released so far. More than 1,000 FMGs applied, each paying an application fee of ₹6,000. This is a serious injustice to those who have been waiting to begin their internship for the past five months. The concerned authorities must ensure that the number of available seats is increases immediately."
AFA also shared the screenshot of a reply by UPMC, which stated "Please do the choice filling, those who donot get seats can try in other state council or wait for next counselling whenever happens."
Sharing the screenship of the mail from UPMC, the All FMGs Association mentioned in an X post, "Foreign medical graduates waited for 5 months, stressing out about start of internship, and now UPMC has released fewer seats which will left 500+ Fmgs with no internship and wants FMGs to go to other states for their internships. Is this we deserve from state like Uttar Pradesh @myogiadityanath g? @NMC_BHARAT @myogioffice @UPGovt @CMOfficeUP Please take swift action on it and increase the number of seats."
