UP's Moti Lal Nehru Medical College to add 41 PG medical seats in 9 specialities
Prayagraj: Bringing good news to the postgraduate medical aspirants in Uttar Pradesh, Moti Lal Nahru Medical College, Prayagraj is planning to add 41 PG medical seats in nine departments of the institute.
The nine departments in which the college wishes for an increase of seats include medicine, surgery, transfusion medicine, microbiology, ophthalmology, TB and chest, radiology, radiotherapy and dermatology (skin) departments.
The confirmation regarding this came from the MLNMC officials who informed the daily that the NMC team during their inspection has assessed the facilities and resources of the medical college including the number of faculties. Another team of the Apex medical education regulatory body is expected assess the remaining departments of the medical college and after that the committee report would be submitted to NMC for taking forward the process of approval.
Currently, MLNMC has a total number of 138 PG medical seats which would go up to 179 if NMC gives its nod. In case NMC grants permission, the new seats would be available for admission in December 2022/January 2023 counselling.
The last increase of PG seats was done in 2020 and 2021. In 2020 28 seats had been added to the medical college after the State Government and the NMC, erstwhile MCI had given its nod for this. Another 7 seats had been increased in the following year.

As per the latest media report by Hindustan Times, in order to ensure the increase in the PG seats the college had sent a proposal to the state around 15 days ago and requested for a fund of Rs 54.50 crore for improving the resources in the medical college.
The funds that the college sought included Rs 18.36 crore for the construction of teachers' residences, Rs 13.88 crore for the construction of 275 bedded Bachelor PG Hostel, Rs 1.40 crore for the construction of a new mental diseases ward, Rs 1.42 crore for construction of lecture theatre and seminar hall in- MD Eye Hospital, Rs 1.56 crore for construction of lecture theatre and seminar hall over blood bank, Rs 3.38 crore for upgradation and expansion of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry department building, Rs 1.68 crore for up-gradation of the museum, library, lecture hall and seminar hall in Social and Preventive Medicine department, Rs 3.45 crore for construction of ward and rooms above ward number 15 and 16, Rs 6.46 crore for construction of 107 bedded Bachelor PG hostel, Rs 1.45 crore for expansion of student section located at Principal's office and Rs 1.41 crore for upgradation of SRN Hospital's Lecture theatre.
Speaking to HT regarding the recent NMC inspection, Prof SP Singh, principal, MLNMC said, "The NMC team has inspected the MLN Medical College following the proposal to hike the count of seats in different PG courses offered by various departments. Their response has been good for the four departments. We expect that formal permission would soon be coming regarding increasing our PG seats."
