When will NEET SS 2024 be Conducted? Doctors demand clarity over exam date
Mumbai: Doctors are concerned over the lack of mention of the NEET SS 2024 in the exam calendar recently released by the National Board of Examinations (NBE). In its exam calendar, NBEMS announced the tentative dates of its forthcoming examinations including NEET PG 2024, FMGE June 2024 along with GPAT, PDCET, DPEE, FNB exit, DNB, and DrNB practical and theory exams. However, NBE did not announce any dates for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for the super speciality admissions- NEET SS 2024.
Expressing concern over this, the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Maharashtra, and the Maharashtra Chapter of the IMA Junior Doctors' Network recently wrote to the NBE and demanded clarification and sought to know the expected date of conducting NEET SS 2024.
"As per the academic calendar provided by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), the schedule until October lacks any mention of the probable date for the NEET SS examination. This omission has resulted in significant anxiety and confusion among the aspirant community," IMA Maharashtra mentioned in the letter directed to NBE.
"Given the importance of NEET SS in determining the future career paths of medical professionals pursuing super specialty courses, it is crucial for us to have clarity on the expected date of conducting the examination. This information would enable us to plan our preparation and other commitments accordingly," both the associations highlighted.
Therefore, the doctors requested NBE to provide clarification on the expected date of conducting the NEET SS 2024 exam at the earliest and added, "Additionally, any updates or announcements regarding the examination schedule would be greatly appreciated and would help alleviate the concerns of aspirants across the country."
"I understand the challenges and complexities involved in organizing such national-level examinations, especially amidst the ongoing pandemic situation. However, timely communication and transparency regarding the examination schedule are essential for the well-being and peace of mind of the aspirant community," further mentioned the letter.
Speaking to Medical Dialogues in this regard, the General Secretary of IMA JDN Maharashtra, Dr. Pratik Gond questioned, "Well every time the NEET SS Takes place in June or July last year it was postponed to September. But this year they have not mentioned the date in their academic calendar till October. So the issue is are they implying the NEET SS is after October and if so why is it so late?"
"So in our opinion, they should at least declare the date by now. Be it tentative or final they should at least give out the plan for NEET SS and comment on the uncertainty/ panic generated by the half-yearly calendar not mentioning the NEET SS date to be usually conducted in June," he further added.
Commenting on the matter, Dr. Indranil Deshmukh, the National Convener of IMA JDN and also the former State Convener of IMA JDN Maharashtra told Medical Dialogues, "As per the academic calendar provided by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), the schedule until October lacks any mention of the probable date for the NEET SS examination.
