New Delhi: The Supreme Court's directions to the National Board of Examinations (NBE) asking it to hold the NEET PG 2025 examination in a single shift, and the NBE's concerns regarding the lack of adequate exam centres, have fueled the possibility of the pg medical entrance test getting postponed.

With the rumours and anticipations regarding the National Eligibility-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) postponement doing the rounds on social media platforms, doctors have urged the NBEMS to provide clarity on the matter.

Highlighting that students need clarity regarding the NEET PG 2025 exam date, Dr. Rohan Krishnan, a health and medical education activist wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "#NEETPG2025 exam date clarity is needed #NBEMS !!! TRUST only official notification by @NbeIndia regarding Postponement issue! ! ! We request @NbeIndia to release an official Notification & confirm about the examination dates immediately."

Speaking to Medical Dialogues, Dr. Krishnan opined that there is a likelihood of the NEET PG exam getting postponed because of the logistical issues. He said, "It is understandable that earlier, the examination centre was the same, and two shifts were given- morning and evening. Now that we have only one shift of examination, there is an extra burden on conducting the NEET PG examination on that day itself."

"However, it is possible to conduct the NEET PG examination on that specified date if NBE acts in a fast-track manner. It does not seem that NBE was listening to us when we were telling them that the rightful thing to do was to conduct it in one shift, and we will go to court if you are not listening to us, because at the end of the day, justice is served in this country," he added.

However, Dr. Krishnan, who is also the Chief Patron to the FAIMA Doctors Association, said that currently, it is of utmost importance that NBEMS provides clarity on the exam date.

"Right now, we want the National Board of Examination to clarify to the students about the exact date on which the examination is going to be conducted. We don't want it to be postponed. However, if it is going to be postponed, then the students should be informed at least 15 days before the examination, which has already passed. So, we are already running out of time. Students are getting apprehensive. It is a very serious examination- the curriculum is very big, and it has a lot of discrepancies in the study pattern... So, it is in the best interest of the students that they deserve to know the exam date and time of their examination, as soon as possible, so they can do their preparations accordingly," he told Medical Dialogues.

"There are many working students who take this examination. So, these working students need to take leave from their centres, who need to make travel arrangements- many things are there. So, keeping everything in mind, it is in the best interest of the students, the National Board of Examination immediately gives a notice about their plans regarding the NEET PG examination date and time," he added.

Students are confused regarding the NEET PG 2025 exam date after the Supreme Court recently directed NBE to hold the exam in a single shift, further observing that NEET PG in two shifts will lead to arbitrariness.

During the case hearing, NBE had informed the Supreme Court that it might not be able to arrange around 900 exam centres before the exam date i.e. June 15, 2025. Taking note of the submission, the Apex Court had granted permission to the board to apply for extension of time if the authorities failed to identify the additional exam centres on time.

This led to rumours among students that the exam may be postponed. Taking to X, one user wrote, "Realistically speaking it's almost impossible to conduct NEET PG 2025 on 15th June. It's a logistics nightmare. They will need to add cities, create the preference window which will be live for atleast 3-4 days. Postponement is basically certain at this point.#NEETPG2025"

Relying on the Supreme Court order allowing NBE to apply for extension, Dr. Vinod Bagra wrote in an X post, "In the order by Supreme Court ,the Court stated that if the NBE is unable to make the necessary arrangements within the given time, they may apply for an extension. Earlier, this was not confirmed, but now it is clearly stipulated in the order. In my opinion, there are high chances of NEET PG postponement."

Soon after the Supreme Court announced its verdict, an X user wrote, "NEET PG to Be Held in a Single Shift; Number of Exam Centres May Increase.... Exam Was Scheduled for June 15, Now Postponement Confirmed."

Another user wrote, "If I had ₹1 for every NEET PG postponement rumor… I could buy Marrow, BTR, and still have enough left to bribe NMC for the actual date. #neetpg2025"

However, some of the members from the medical fraternity have advised students not to rely on rumours of postponement and continue with their preparations.

For instance, Dr. Atishay Jain wrote on X, "A gentle reminder to all NEET PG aspirants! Please don’t waste your time looking for postponement news! Just think, what if it doesn’t get postponed? You would have wasted this precious time, which could easily boost your rank! Go all in, in this final run."

Similar opinions were expressed by Dr. Dhruv Chauhan, a health activist and the National Spokesperson of IMA-JDN. Addressing a query regarding the NEET PG postponement, he advised students to wait for some time for confirmation regarding the issue and wrote in an X post, "There is nothing finalised regarding it yet No one knows anything right now , all the claims circulating that decision has been taken are false and mere assumptions by people . People need to think logically how NBE can finalise anything in just 2 Off days post SC decision ( Sat 31 and Sunday ) when the Office is closed . Let’s wait for a day or two ."
