The awards were presented at the Medical Research Summit and Blackbuck Awards, recently organised by Medical Dialogues and National Medical Forum.
The awards were presented in the presence of Shri. Harsh Malhotra, Hon. Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and Road Transport, and Dr. Abhijat Sheth, Chairperson - National Medical Commission (NMC) and Dr. Anil Goyal, MLA, Krishna Nagar, Dr Mahesh Verma, Vice Chancellor of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) in Delhi and Dr. Harish Gupta served as Guests of Honour.
The Medical Research Summit and Blackbuck Awards, organised by Medical Dialogues, Powered by Wolters Kluwer, took place on 10th Aug 2025, Sunday, at The Lalit, New Delhi and brought together leading medical researchers, healthcare professionals, and industry experts from across the country to discuss the latest innovations, challenges, and opportunities in medical research.
The blackbuck, a beautiful and rare Indian animal, is revered for its resilience and remarkable ability to adapt to its environment. Inspired by the qualities of the Blackbuck, the "Blackbuck Awards for Medical Research" have been established to recognise groundbreaking achievements in medical science. Similar to how the blackbuck faces threats from habitat loss and poaching, medical research encounters challenges such as funding constraints, regulatory hurdles, and public scepticism, to name a few among many others.
By honouring exceptional achievements in medical research in India through the 'Blackbuck Awards,' Medical Dialogues aims to raise awareness of the importance of supporting and nurturing the scientific endeavours that are vital for the health and well-being of society at large.
The awards were given across categories, namely, the Rising Research Award given to young researchers less than 45 years of age for their research, Pioneer Research Award given to senior researchers with exemplary participation, with age more than 45 years for their cumulative work. The Stellar Research Award is given for innovative and customised research projects, and the Outstanding Research Institutional Award, and the Blackbuck Outstanding Medical Journal Award, a recognition awarded to the various leading institutions involved in medical research.
Dr. Prem Aggarwal, Chairman of Medical Dialogues, stated, "The Blackbuck Awards stand as a powerful recognition of the unwavering commitment and hard work of our medical researchers. By celebrating their achievements, we not only honour their invaluable contributions to the field but also encourage and inspire future generations to strive for excellence. These awards highlight the pivotal role that research plays in driving medical innovation and enhancing patient care."
Around 110 applications were received for this year, and winners were selected by an independent jury chaired by Dr. Arun Kumar Agarwal, Former Dean, Maulana Azad Medical College, Dr. Ashok Kumar Bagga, Former Deputy Director General, ICMR, including Dr. Raju Vaishya, Vice Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences; Dr. Yash Paul Sharma, HOD, Cardiology, PGIMER, Chandigarh; Dr. Dharmesh Lal, Senior Professor, Orthopaedics, KGMU; Dr. S.V.
