AP to deploy AWARE platform for Real-Time Disease Surveillance

AP Health Minister
Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has planned to deploy the Advanced Warning Advisory for Resilient Ecosystem (AWARE) services of the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) to strengthen public health surveillance. The system will enable real-time monitoring of seasonal diseases and allow for swift preventive action.
Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav said the initiative was undertaken on the directions of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

According to Deccan Chronicle, by integrating health surveillance with the Real Time Governance Society, the department aims to identify disease intensity and potential outbreak zones at an early stage and initiate timely preventive measures.
Under the AWARE platform, the severity and possible spread of diseases will be assessed at the primary stage itself, allowing timely intervention. Data from the past five to six years will be integrated with current inputs to track communicable diseases such as dengue, malaria, and typhoid, with monitoring carried out village- and secretariat-wise.
Seasonal diseases linked to changing weather conditions will be closely monitored, and precautionary measures will be suggested in advance using the technical capabilities of RTGS.
Officials from the Directorate of Secondary Health and Medical Education have already been trained to use the AWARE platform for planning and response. The system continuously tracks climatic changes, issues alerts to government machinery and the public, and uses GIS-based tools to map health risks sector-wise.
The initiative also covers maternal and child health indicators, compiling details on pregnancies, caesarean deliveries, and infant immunisation. During cyclones and disasters, the system will help identify high-risk pregnant women for safe evacuation, reports TOI.
Integrated with multiple departments, including agriculture, fisheries, environment, water management, satellite monitoring, and disaster management, the AWARE platform is expected to significantly enhance preparedness, inter-departmental coordination, and data-driven decision-making across the state.
