Bihar Boosts Transparency in Ayushman Bharat

Patna: In a move to combat fraud and improve transparency within the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) health insurance scheme, Shailesh Chandra Diwakar, the administrative officer of Bihar Swasthya Suraksha Samiti (BSSS), issued a stern warning to hospitals and individuals involved in tampering the beneficiary data.

Diwakar emphasized that the government would take strict action to plug loopholes in the portal and prosecute those involved in fraudulent activities.

Diwakar's remarks came during a one-day training program on the upgraded 'Transaction Management System 2.0' (TMS 2.0), organized jointly by the Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI) and BSSS. The session, was attended by over 100 arogya mitras, doctors, and other personnel from private hospitals was designed to assist patients throughout their hospitalization journey under the AB-PMJAY health insurance scheme. ADRI provides technical support to BSSS for the implementation of this scheme in Bihar.

According to the news reports, the upgraded TMS 2.0 portal employs cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to detect fraud, a feature that was not present in its predecessor, TMS 1.0. Diwakar warned hospitals against omitting critical details, such as patients' phone numbers and those of their attendants, during the registration process. Additionally, he mentioned that these cases would result in an outright rejection by the authorities.

Speaking to TOI, Dr. Neeraj Kr Singh, director-healthcare of BSSS, said a medical committee has been constituted to monitor claims strictly. Shree Prakash Chandra Jha, IT manager at BSSS, reported that more than 9 lakh IDs were created on this all-India TMS 2.0 portal. Dr Arshad Ayub, senior medical officer at BSSS, emphasized that transparency must be present while processing the claims of ill beneficiaries.

The training session was also attended by several officials from BSSS and ADRI, including Ritesh Mishra, Santosh Jha, Dr. Suraj Shankar, and Satyendra Kumar, who provided essential insights on the functioning of the upgraded system.
