1 dead, 6 injured as doctor-driven SUV hits scooter, runs over footpath sleepers

Lucknow- In a shocking incident in Lucknow, a speeding SUV allegedly driven by a doctor collided with a scooter carrying three people. Following this, the car ran over four individuals sleeping on a footpath.
One person died in the accident, while six others sustained serious injuries and were immediately rushed to Balrampur Hospital for medical treatment.
The incident took place near Burlington Crossing on Sunday morning. After hitting the scooter, the speeding SUV reportedly veered off the road and ran over four people who were sleeping on a footpath.
The SUV was driven by the doctor, an intern at a prestigious medical institute in the city, officials said.
As per the TOI media news report, the police have stated that the doctor first rammed into the scooter from behind. As a result of this collision, the scooter rider died on the spot, while the two people seated behind were injured. They were admitted to Balrampur Hospital and later shifted to the KGMU Trauma Centre, where their condition is critical.
According to reports, the deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Sushil, alias Sonu, a resident of Alambagh. He was riding a non-geared scooter when a vehicle collided with him. The other two victims were identified as Suraj and Hemant.
Following this incident, the victims' employer, Jagdish Chandra Mehra, lodged a complaint at the Kaiserbagh Police Station. In his complaint, he stated that Sushil, Suraj Kashyap, and Hemant Sahu, three young men aged approximately 25, were riding a scooter near Ratan Square around 3:00 AM when a speeding SUV bearing a Chhattisgarh registration number collided with them.
After the collision, the SUV went out of control, veered off the road onto the footpath, and ran over the labourers who were sleeping over there. At least six people were seriously injured in this incident and were immediately taken to Balrampur Hospital. Currently, all of them are undergoing treatment.
The injured labourers have been identified as Noman, Adil, Ejaz, and Abdullah. However, Dr Sanjay Tewatia of Balrampur Hospital stated that Adil and Noman have been referred to the KGMU Trauma Centre, while the other two are recovering and their injuries are not life-threatening.
Meanwhile, SHO Kaiserbagh, Anjani Mishra, confirmed that the accused has been arrested and the SUV has also been seized. SHO stated, "We are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident, including the possibility of speeding or negligence."
