1090 Medical Officers get appointment letters in Haryana

Panchkula: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini handed over appointment letters to 1,090 newly recruited medical officers, including 705 women. This move comes as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to address the shortage of medical professionals and improve healthcare services across the state.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in a significant boost to the state’s healthcare system, the Haryana government is set to recruit over 700 new medical officers in government hospitals this March. This move aims to address the existing shortage of healthcare professionals, with 900 posts remaining vacant against a sanctioned strength of 3,902.

The newly recruited medical officers include 561 doctors from the health department and 529 ayurvedic medical officers from the AYUSH department. During a state-level orientation program held in Panchkula on the occasion of International Women's day, CM Saini encouraged the new recruits to serve with dedication, particularly in rural and remote areas where healthcare services are often limited. He acknowledged the ongoing shortage of doctors in Haryana and emphasized that the latest appointments would help bridge the gap in healthcare provision. He also announced that the recruitment process for 777 additional regular medical officers is currently underway.

The Chief Minister also emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening medical education in Haryana. Saini pointed out that the number of MBBS seats has grown from 700 in 2014 to 2,185, while PG medical seats have increased from 289 to 1,006.

According to Hindustan Times, the chief minister said, “Nine new medical colleges have been established, bringing the total number to 15 and the goal is to establish a medical college in every district of Haryana.”

Saini also commended Haryana’s top ranking in the Anemia Mukt Bharat program. He credited the dedicated efforts of medical professionals in achieving this success and urged the newly appointed medical officers to keep up with advancements in medical technology, including AI, robotic surgery, and gene therapy, to ensure world-class healthcare delivery.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Haryana Health Minister Arti Singh Rao said that Haryana’s healthcare network includes 22 district civil hospitals, 50 sub-divisional hospitals, 122 community health centers, 408 primary health centers, 107 urban primary health centers, and 2,734 sub-health centers. Additionally, nine specialist Maternal and Child Health (MCH) wings will be set up in Panchkula, Panipat, Faridabad, Sonipat, Palwal, Sirsa, Kaithal, Mahendragarh, and at the medical college in Nuh.

In addition, Haryana’s government has been working on mapping healthcare facilities through Geographic Information System (GIS) technology, leading to the approval of 218 new sub-health centers, 82 new primary health centers (PHCs), and 25 new community health centers (CHCs).

The health minister also unveiled new schemes aimed at providing financial assistance to patients suffering from kidney failure and cancer. Rao said that free dialysis services for kidney patients have been provided since October 17, 2024, and that stage-3 and stage-4 cancer patients are being provided Rs. 3,000 per month as financial assistance.
