13 AIIMS have 2.574 Sanctioned Faculty Posts, 1476 Posts Filled: Union Health Minister gives breakup

New Delhi: There are 2,574 sanctioned faculty positions across 13 All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) across the country, and 1476 of these sanctioned posts are already filled, the Union Minister of Health, JP Nadda informed the Lok Sabha recently.

Further, the Minister informed that 72 contractual doctors are working as faculty in these AIIMS, and altogether 8 retired officials are working as contractual employees.

The Minister shared the data regarding 13 AIIMS located in Bibinagar, Bhatinda, Bilaspur, Deoghar, Gorakhpur, Guwahati, Kalyani, Madurai, Mangalagiri, Raebareli, Nagpur, Rajkot, and Vijaypur while responding to the queries raised by MP Shri Dharmendra Yadav.

MP Yadav sought to know from the Union Health Ministry the total number of regular posts created for different categories, namely UR/SEBC/SC/ST and recruitments made there against the posts of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor in the Government Medical Colleges/Institutes and new AIIMS opened since the year 2014.

Further he sought the institute and category-wise details of the total number of faculties/teachers and employees working on contractual basis in the said institutes during the said period, the details of tenure fixed for the said contractual teaching faculty/consultants/employees, the percentage of the said contractual employees in comparison to the total posts created in the said institutes.

The MP also asked the Ministry about the total number of faculty/employees of the general category vis-à-vis reserved category employed and working on regular and contractual basis in the said institutes and the total number of officials working as Consultants/Teaching faculty/staff in these posts after retirement.

In response, the Union Health minister informed in a written statement that "In a medical institute under the Ministry, once the posts are created, reservation rosters are maintained as per the instructions of the Central Government and the recruitment is carried out accordingly."

He also provided the total number of faculty posts created and filled in the Government medical colleges/institutes under the Ministry opened since 2014 in the form of an Annexure.

*AIIMS (Darbhanga), AIIMS (Awantipora) and AIIMS (Rewari) are in the initial stage of establishment and no recruitment of faculty has been made so far in these three institutes.

As per the data provided by the Minister, these 13 AIIMS have 2,574 sanctioned faculty positions, and 1476 of these sanctioned posts are already filled. Institute-wise, 112 out of 157 posts are filled in AIIMS Bibinagar, 118 out of 193 posts are filled in AIIMS Bhatinda, and 114 out of 191 posts are filled in AIIMS Bilaspur.

AIIMS Deoghar has 110 out of 182 posts filled, 103 out of 187 posts filled in AIIMS Gorakhpur, AIIMS Guwahati has 101 out of 157 posts filled, 148 out of 259 posts are filled in AIIMS Kalyani, 50 out of 157 posts are filled in AIIMS Madurai, 135 out of 233 posts are filled in AIIMS Mangalagiri, 219 out of 347 posts are filled in AIIMS Nagpur, 104 out of 175 posts are filled in AIIMS Raebareli, 76 out of 179 posts are filled in AIIMS Rajkot and 86 out of 157 posts are filled in AIIMS Vijaypur.

Providing the details of the contractual faculty and employees, the Minister informed, "The tenure of contractual engagement varies from six months to two years, or until the posts are filled on a regular basis, whichever is earlier, depending on the specific needs of the Institute."

The Minister provided the Institute-wise number of contractual faculty and other contractual employees along with the percentage in comparison to the sanctioned regular posts in the Government medical colleges/institutes under the Ministry opened since 2014 in the form of an annexure.

Providing the details of sanctioned posts at 13 AIIMS, the Minister informed that these institutes have altogether 23,946 Sanctioned Posts and 540 contractual employees are working at these institutes. The total number of contractual faculty at these institutes is 72.

For instance, AIIMS located in Bibinagar, Bhatinda, Guwahati and Nagpur have 1 contractual faculty each. Altogether 8 contractual faculty each are working in both AIIMS Madurai and AIIMS Bilaspur.

Further, AIIMS Deoghar has 10 contractual faculty, Gorakhpur has 4 faculty, there are 13 contractual faculty at AIIMS Mangalagiri, 4 faculty at AIIMS Raebareli, 2 faculty members at AIIMS Rajkot, and 19 contractual faculty at AIIMS Vijaypur. As per the data provided by the Minister, there are no contractual faculty at AIIMS Kalyani.

Addressing the query regarding the total number of faculty/employees of general category vis-a-vis reserved category employed and working on regular and contractual basis in the Government medical colleges/institutes under the Ministry opened since 2014, the Minister provided the institute-wise and category-wise data in the form of an Annexure.

AIIMS Bibinagar has 90 faculty under the UR category, 14 under the SC category, 04 under the ST category, 23 under OBC category and 1 faculty under EWS category.

AIIMS Bhatinda has 66, 17, 11, 29, and 17 faculty members under UR, SC, ST, OBC, and EWS categories, respectively. AIIMS Bilaspur has 75 faculty under UR category, 12 faculty under SC category, 7 faculty members under ST category, 20 under OBC and 12 under EWS category.

There are 80- faculty under UR category, 17 under SC, 04 under ST, 29 under OBC category at AIIMS Deoghar. Meanwhile, AIIMS Gorakhpur has 61 faculty under UR category, 16 under SC category, 05 ST category, 22 under OBC and 10 under EWS category.

AIIMS Guwahati has 72 faculty members under UR category, 12 each under SC and ST categories, and 19 under the OBC category. AIIMS Kalyani has 122 faculty members under UR category, 10 under SC category, 3 under ST category, 35 under the OBC category. There are 28 faculty members under the UR category at AIIMS Madurai. Further, the institute has 10 faculty under SC category, and 20 under the OBC category.

AIIMS Mangalagiri has 95 faculty members under UR category, 17 under SC category, 6 under ST category, 27 under the OBC category, and 6 under EWS category. There are 72 faculty members under the UR category at AIIMS Raebareli. Further, the institute has 12 faculty members under SC category, 5 under ST category, 20 under OBC and 04 under the EWS category.

AIIMS Nagpur has 130 faculty members under the UR category, 28 under the SC category, 09 under the ST category, 51 under the OBC and 16 under the EWS category. AIIMS Rajkot has 54 faculty members under the UR category, 3 under the SC category, 2 under the ST category, and 17 under the OBC category. AIIMS Vijaypur has 68 faculty members under the UR category, 17 under SC, 4 under ST, 17 under OBC, and 9 under the EWS category.

Furthermore, the Minister provided the number of retired officials working as Consultants/Teaching faculty/staff in the Government medical colleges/institutes under the Ministry opened since 2014.
