2 Bhopal doctors served show-cause notices over alleged irregularities in inspection report

Bhopal: Show-cause notices have been issued to two doctors in Bhopal after serious irregularities were found in an inspection report of NRI Nursing College and Arnav Hospital, which is alleged to have been fabricated.

The two health officials involved are the District Immunisation Officer and another doctor posted at UPHC Sai Baba Nagar, have been accused of failing to physically verify the actual condition of the hospital during the inspection and of including false information in the report.

Taking note of the alleged negligence, the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO), Bhopal, Dr Manish Sharma, initiated a preliminary investigation and issued show cause notices to the doctors. In the notice, the duo have been asked to clarify the lapses presented in the inspection report.

The issue triggered protests on Thursday, when workers of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) gheraoed the CMHO office, demanding strict action against those responsible.

NSUI alleged that the inspection report of Arnav Hospital was deliberately fabricated to mislead the government and the administration. NSUI state vice president Ravi Parmar demanded the immediate suspension of the guilty officers and called for the registration of an FIR and criminal proceedings in the matter.

Speaking to Central Chronicle, Parmar said, "The matter went beyond administrative negligence and amounted to a serious criminal offence."

District president Akshay Tomar warned that failure to take stringent action would encourage corruption and fraud in the health system, adversely affecting patients and the quality of nursing education. He added that NSUI would approach the High Court if action is not taken against fake faculties and officials shielding such practices.
