2 LLRM Medical College doctors suspended after emergency ward video goes viral

Lucknow: A shocking video from the state-run Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage. The footage shows a junior resident doctor from the orthopaedics department asleep on a chair with his leg propped up on a nearby table in front of an air conditioner, while a critically injured accident victim lay bleeding and unattended on a bed in front of him for hours, eventually passing away.
According to reports, the junior doctor was reportedly on duty when the patient was admitted to the hospital's emergency ward. The purported video of the incident showed that the patient was accompanied by around seven attendants. He was lying on a bed as the attendants waited and pleaded helplessly for the doctor to wake up and attend to him.
A woman carrying a child in her arms can be seen in the video trying to wake the sleeping doctor. She stood beside him, visibly confused and unsure of what to do next. Despite her efforts, the doctor remained asleep, and the critically injured patient ultimately bled to death.
Taking cognisance of the matter, the medical college administration suspended the junior doctor and another doctor involved with the incident with immediate effect and formed a three-member committee to probe the matter thoroughly.

As per a TOI media report, the incident occurred around 1 a.m. on Monday, when a man from Hasanpur Kala village was critically injured after being hit by an unidentified vehicle late at night. Police personnel rushed him to the emergency ward of Meerut Medical College. Upon arrival, they found the on-duty doctor in a deep sleep and waited for a long, hoping he would wake up. Realising the patient's critical condition, they also pleaded with other medical staff for help, but to no avail.
Another video related to the incident also surfaced online, showing a hospital staff member confronting the patient’s attendants, questioning why they were filming inside the emergency ward, citing that recording was not permitted. The staff member attempted to stop the recording, but the attendant responded by asking why their critically injured patient had not been given immediate medical treatment. Tragically, the patient passed away shortly afterwards due to the alleged lack of timely treatment.
Enraged over this, the villagers and family members reached the hospital in the morning and protested. They claimed that no doctor attended to him, and the emergency staff remained unresponsive despite repeated pleas.
"When we tried to wake him up, the staff argued instead of responding. It was only after repeated efforts that they got up to see him, and even then, they didn’t treat him properly. His wounds were not even examined," said the patient's father.
Another relative told HT, "We pleaded with the doctors and staff that he was bleeding profusely, but they did not heed to our request, leading to his death early on Monday morning."
Principal of LLRM, Dr RC Gupta, told TOI, "Taking cognisance of the video, the concerned JR, Dr Bhupesh Kumar Rai, was immediately suspended, and a three-member committee was constituted to probe the family's allegations. The accident victim was probably admitted to the hospital's emergency ward around 1 am on Monday. We've also taken note of the fact that in the widely circulated video, the patient's family members were pleading for treatment."
