23-year-old doctor alleges assault, extortion on dating app

Hyderabad Doctor Assaulted, Extorted by App Contact
Hyderabad: In a disturbing incident, a 23-year-old doctor was allegedly blackmailed, assaulted, and extorted by a man he met on a dating platform.
The incident came to light after the victim lodged a complaint with the Madhapur police, leading to the registration of a case and the launch of an investigation.
According to the complaint, the victim had been chatting with the accused for nearly two weeks on the dating app Grindr before agreeing to meet in person. On the evening of September 21, he visited a paying guest (PG) accommodation in Ayyappa Society, where the accused had invited him.
During the meeting, the accused allegedly attempted to force the doctor into sexual activity. When the victim refused, the accused became violent — slapping, punching, and threatening him. “He forcibly took my father’s phone number and said he would reveal my sexual orientation unless I paid him,” the doctor stated in his complaint.

However, the harassment did not stop there. The accused continued to stalk the victim and demanded more money. When the doctor refused, the man followed him to the private hospital where he works and threatened to create a public scene and contact his father if his demands were not met.
The situation escalated further when the accused forcibly entered the doctor’s flat, took ₹3,000 from his wallet, and physically and verbally abused him before leaving.

We have also requested information from Grindr about the accused. We are also examining CCTV footage from various locations based on the information provided by the victim in order to identify the perpetrator.
