37-year-old doctor found dead, anaesthesia overdose suspected

Doctor Suicide
Kochi: In an unfortunate incident, a female anaesthetist working at a private hospital in Aluva allegedly ended her life by injecting herself with an overdose of anaesthesia at her residence in Marampally near Perumbavoor.
During the preliminary investigation, police recovered a vial of anaesthetic drugs and a syringe near her body. Prima facie, it appeared to be a case of suicide. However, no suicide note was found.
The incident came to light when the 37-year-old doctor failed to report for duty at the hospital. Her colleagues tried calling her repeatedly, but when she did not respond, they grew concerned and went to her flat. Finding the door locked from inside, they alerted neighbours, who broke it open and discovered her dead.

Speaking on this, an officer told TOI, "According to the security guard, she usually ordered dinner most days but did not do so on Thursday night. It is suspected that she died sometime in the night."
"A bottle and syringe were found near the body. We have not found any evidence so far indicating foul play. There were no signs of any struggle. She was staying alone, and the flat was locked from inside," he said.
"We have not found any suicide note. Her phone is locked, and an analysis might give us more insight. The exact cause of death will be determined after the autopsy," the officer said.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a 35-year-old senior resident doctor working at Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH), Manjeri, allegedly committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan in her apartment. It was reported that the doctor was struggling with depression. However, the reason behind her sudden extreme step is unclear and is currently under police investigation.
