Andhra Pradesh doctor suspended over patient death at PHC
Doctors Suspended
Vijayawada: Following the death of a 38-year-old man at the Atchampeta Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) in Andhra Pradesh’s Palnadu district, after allegedly being denied timely treatment. The incident resulted in the suspension of the doctor and triggered public outrage.
According to the news reports, the deceased suffered severe seizures on Sunday morning and was rushed to the Atchampeta PHC around 9:15 a.m. However, the on-duty doctor was reportedly not present at the facility when the patient arrived.
The nurse allegedly advised the family to shift the patient to the Sattenapalli dispensary for further treatment. While transport arrangements were being made, the patient's condition worsened, and he died at the PHC around 9:45 a.m.
Following this, the bereaved family members staged a dharna in front of the PHC, accusing the staff of negligence and demanding accountability.

According to the Hindu, tension mounted at the hospital when Nagulu’s wife, Jaan Bi, and his children threatened to pour petrol over themselves and end their lives. However, the police pacified the victims. The victim’s family members raised slogans demanding action against the PHC doctor and staff. The police registered a case and took up an investigation.
Upon learning of the incident, the district medical and health officer (DMHO) of Palnadu, Dr Ravi, issued suspension orders against the on-duty doctor on Sunday evening, citing negligence in duty, reports TOI.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that after being found guilty in a medical negligence case, an obstetrician and gynaecologist at the Government Mother and Child Hospital in Basava Kalyana was suspended and transferred to another healthcare facility on charges of dereliction of duty. According to an order issued by the Commissioner of the Health and Family Welfare Department, the doctor has been transferred to the Community Health Centre at Kudalasangama in Hungund taluk of Bagalkot district.
