Angamaly hit-and-run case: Absconding doctor detained
DoctorKochi: In a shocking incident, a young doctor has been taken into police custody in connection with an alleged hit-and-run accident that killed a 19-year-old college student in Angamaly, Ernakulam district of Kerala.
According to the news reports, the accused, a native of Athirampuzha in Kottayam, was detained at a resort in Wagamon where he was reportedly hiding after the fatal accident that occurred on February 28.

“The accused was taken into custody following information received by the Wagamon police. He will be handed over to the Angamaly police and produced before the court following due arrest procedures,” said District police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) K.S. Sudarshan, reports The Hindu.
Earlier the same day, the Angamaly police also arrested the father of the accused, a businessman, for allegedly helping his son evade arrest. He was booked under Section 249 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for harbouring an offender.
The arrest comes amid mounting public pressure and protests by the victim’s classmates and political organizations, who have accused authorities of being lenient due to the influential background of the doctor, the SUV driver involved in the incident.
Following the protests, police issued a lookout notice against the doctor on Thursday before eventually locating and detaining him in Wagamon.
Police investigations, including analysis of call records and cell tower data, indicated that the father actively assisted his son in absconding.
The father is scheduled to be produced before the Angamaly Judicial First Class Magistrate Court today.
Meanwhile, the accused doctor has moved an anticipatory bail plea before the Kottayam Sessions Court, which is expected to consider the petition on Monday. Police said they would submit a report opposing the bail.
