Anti Corruption sleuths recover Rs 1.12 crore cash from Bhubaneshwar based Gynecologist
Bhubaneshwar: Vigilance directorate officials raided and seized Rs 1.12 crore cash recovered from the residence of a gynecology specialist on Wednesday. It is considered to be one of the highest cash seizures done by the officials.
According to the New Indian express sources, the specialist who works at Charichhak community health centre (CHC) in Puri district allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 bribe from a woman for her cesarean section surgery and eventually agreed to a sum of Rs 8,000. But the doctor refused to operate until he received the bribe money, even though the woman was in labour. In order to start the surgery, her cousin brother was forced to give 5,000 in advance to the doctor.

Doctor was caught red-handed by the officers for accepting bribe after they carried out a search at Jena's duplex in the Kalarahanga area on the outskirts of the Capital City. He was caught accepting the remaining bribe amount of Rs 3,000.
The search at gynecologists' house led to discovery of the huge amount of cash stacked in various bags, which surprised and caught attention of the anti-corruption agency's officers. Cash worth more than Rs 1 crore was recovered using a cash counting machine. The seized bundles are mostly Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 denominations.

The investigation is underway that whether he collected such a huge amount from patients in exchange for performing surgeries at the Charichhak CHC. the officers of the anti-corruption agency are also seeking confirmation as to whether the doctor is running his own private clinic.
Vigilance Director YK Jethwa told, "Searches are continuing to ascertain whether Jena has any other assets. A thorough probe has been launched into the matter."
