AYUSH practitioner removed after molestation allegation at KGMU

KGMU
Lucknow: In a shocking incident, an AYUSH practitioner deployed through a private agency at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow has been removed from duty after an internal inquiry confirmed allegations of molestation made by a female patient during an ultrasound in the urology department.
According to the news reports, the incident took place on April 1, when a woman from Kakori visited the hospital for treatment and was advised to undergo an ultrasound scan. Following the procedure, she accused the doctor—who had been deployed through a private agency under the public-private partnership (PPP) model—of inappropriate conduct and submitted a written complaint.
A seven-member inquiry committee, led by Prof. Apul Goyal, Head of the Urology Department, was constituted to investigate the allegations. The committee recorded the victim’s statement and examined the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“Based on the report, the agency-deployed doctor has been removed,” said spokesperson Dr K K Singh. He added that the ward aide was also terminated for not being present during the procedure, reports TOI.
Beyond the immediate case, the incident has reignited concerns about the PPP model in operation within KGMU, particularly in the Urology department.
Despite having a well-established Radiology department with around 12 regular doctors and over 40 resident doctors, certain diagnostic services, including ultrasound, continue to be outsourced to private agencies.
Companies are making huge profits in KGMU. In return, KGMU is receiving a meager commission. In the Urology department, too, ultrasound machines have been operated on a PPP model for about 20 years. Who is conducting the tests in these? KGMU administration is not concerned about this, reports Bhaskar English.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow has come under scrutiny following the arrest of a man accused of posing as a resident doctor and allegedly targeting female medical students as part of a fraudulent religious conversion racket.
