Battling depression, 65-year-old doctor jumps to death from 42nd floor

Mumbai: A 65-year-old doctor allegedly committed suicide on Saturday afternoon by jumping from the 42nd floor of a highrise in the Nagpada area of Mumbai Central. He was reportedly undergoing cancer treatment and dealing with depression.

According to the PTI report, Dr Farooq Ansari died on the spot after jumping from the balcony of his flat at Orchid Enclave Tower, said an official.

The deceased, identified as Dr Farooq Ansari lived with his family on the 42nd floor of Orchid Enclave in Mumbai Central. He had been suffering from depression for the past two years and was receiving treatment for it.

He had been diagnosed with cancer six months ago and was depressed and stressed, as per the preliminary probe.

His wife and son were in the house when the incident took place. Further investigation is underway, the official added.

After his family informed the police, the police arrived at the scene and rushed him to JJ Hospital, where the doctor pronounced him dead.

As per the media report in the Free Press Journal, a police officer stated, "The deceased was undergoing treatment and was not running a clinic. He was living with his family. The investigation is in the preliminary stage, and the reason behind his depression is not certain as the incident has just occurred."
