Bengaluru Radiologist assaulted, robbed of Rs 50 lakh gold, cash at gunpoint
Bengaluru: A radiologist's house in the city became the scene of a major money heist after three miscreants entered his house, assaulted him, threatened him at gunpoint and robbed 500 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 30 lakh, Rs 20 lakh in cash, and six wristwatches.
In response to the robbery, the police registered a case against the three individuals under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). They suspect the miscreants to be gangsters from Uttar Pradesh who planned the robbery meticulously after observing the doctor's family members' routines. Consequently, they formed a special investigation team to catch the culprits.
The middle-aged radiologist who returned home after work was shocked to discover a masked man waiting in the hall of his north Bengaluru residence. Despite his attempts to thwart the crime, the doctor was overpowered and subjected to violence and threats by the intruder and two accomplices.
The incident took place on Wednesday night when the three armed miscreants were waiting near the doctor's house in a Hyundai Verna. The car was parked about 50 meters away from the doctor's residence.
As per a TOI news report, the doctor's wife and daughter had left around 8 pm to buy flowers from a nearby market, with one of the miscreants following them to the end of the road to confirm their destination. After assuring that they were shopping in the market. The accused rejoined his partners before they entered the doctor's house.
Two of the criminals ransacked wardrobes, filling backpacks with ornaments, cash, and other valuables, while the third stood guard in the hall. When the doctor arrived home around 8:20 pm, he encountered the masked man. Following this, he attempted to lock the door from outside but was prevented by the broken lock.
The intruders then forcibly pulled him inside, assaulted him, and continued to gather valuables from the first and second floors. As they fled, they pushed the doctor into a room on the first floor and locked him inside.
While leaving the house, the miscreants spotted the CCTV camera positioned at the entrance and attempted to remove its DVR located in the hallway but was unsuccessful.
After they left, the doctor managed to alert a neighbour, who contacted the police. The police said that the CCTV footage captured the criminals' entry and exit and an investigation is underway to nab them.
Speaking to the Daily, a police officer said, “His wife said she had seen the miscreants in the car around 4 pm near her house. We suspect the miscreants had zeroed in on the doctor’s house earlier and observed the movements of the family members for a few days."
