Coimbatore doctor out on a walk robbed of Rs 70000 at sickle point
Coimbatore: In a shocking incident, a doctor posted at a private hospital in Coimbatore was robbed of Rs 70,000 at sickle point by two unidentified men at Codissia ground near SITRA on Friday.
According to the police, the doctor was held captive under the weapon and was forced to withdraw Rs 50,000 with his debit card from an ATM and make an online transfer of Rs 20,000 to them.
After receiving a complaint from the doctor, the police formed a special team to arrest the robbers in connection with the case.
The incident took place when the doctor, a resident of Masakkalipalayam had gone for a walk near Codissia around 9 pm after finishing his work. When he was about to leave on his scooter, two men on a motorcycle waylaid him, threatened him with a sickle, and demanded money.
However, when the doctor said that he had no money in that situation, the robbers allegedly made him transfer Rs 20,000 from his e-wallet, took him to his residence on their bike and made him withdraw Rs 50,000 with his debit card from an ATM.
After robbing the money from the doctor, they dropped him off at Peelamedu Bridge around 1.50 am on Saturday as per TNIE reports.
Following this, the doctor approached the police and registered a case against the two accused under Section 392 (robbery) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). An investigation into the case is underway.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that a 30-year-old woman doctor was allegedly attacked and robbed of cash and a mobile phone by two unidentified men while she was walking to her workplace at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Nayak (LNJP) Hospital in central Delhi.
