UP Shocker: Doctor assaulted, robbed on pretext of medical emergency, forced to perform unnatural sex

Varanasi: In a jaw-dropping incident, two final-year students of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) were arrested on Monday for allegedly sexually assaulting a 32-year-old male doctor and forcing him to perform unnatural sex.

The accused locked the doctor in the hostel room and robbed him of Rs 60,000 with other valuable gold items.

According to the police, the accused students called the doctor for a medical emergency at the university's hostel. They then imprisoned him in the hostel room, physically assaulted him, coerced him into engaging in non-consensual sexual acts, and robbed him by threatening to share a nude video of him on social media.

Along with these two students, three others were also in the hostel room when the incident occurred.

Two accused were arrested under sections 377 (unnatural offences), 347 (wrongful confinement to extort property or constrain to an illegal act), 384 (extortion), 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to a TNIE news report, the incident came to light on February 4 after the doctor filed a complaint against the accused at the police station. However, it occurred on January 11 after the accused befriended the doctor on the LGBTQ dating app in December 2023.

After exchanging brief conversations for days, the accused called the doctor to their hostel for a medical emergency claiming that one of his roommates' health condition was deteriorating.

Following this, the doctor immediately reached the university hostel and was taken to the hostel room by the accused where the accused allegedly locked him, forcibly stripped him naked, performed unnatural sex with the doctor and also filmed the incident on the phone.

Later, they snatched his gold chain with a locket, gold ring and cash worth Rs 60,000 from him after threatening to make the video viral. The accused took Rs 20,000 cash and forced the doctor to transfer Rs 40,000 online.

The online transaction of the amount sent by the doctor led the police to trace the accused through their bank account and arrest them based on the FIR.

The police said that the accused confessed to their crime during interrogation and even pleaded for mercy. Meanwhile, they have also confessed to assaulting other doctors and businessmen in the past.

"They even wept and pleaded for mercy promising the police authorities of not committing the crime ever again. They pleaded for their future. They also revealed that they had assaulted four other doctors and a businessman in the past. However, no other victim has come forward so far,” Varanasi Deputy Commissioner of Police RS Gautam told the daily.

Taking the serious nature of the incident into account, the police have now decided to invoke the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act against the accused. Further, the case is under investigation.

Prof Shiv Prakash Singh, the Chief Proctor of BHU, has requested a report from the Dean of Faculty regarding the incident. The Chief Proctor has stated that the university will proceed with appropriate action against the students involved, based on the report provided by the Dean and in accordance with the university's regulations.
