Bhopal doctor buys Toy Drone for son, found in Central Jail
Bhopal: A Chinese-made drone, purchased by a doctor working at a private medical college, has reportedly ended up in the high-security Central Jail in Bhopal. This seemingly harmless purchase has raised significant concerns regarding both security and the potential misuse of technology in high-security environments.
The doctor is said to have purchased a Chinese-made toy drone from Delhi as a gift for his son, using it for the first time on December 31. However, during its flight, the drone reportedly went out of control and was subsequently lost.
The doctor resides about a kilometre from the jail and only became aware of the drone's fate when he saw pictures of it on local media on January 9. Upon realizing it was his drone, he immediately contacted the police to report the incident.
The police have sent the drone for forensic examination, and they may also charge the doctor for flying it into the high-security jail, where over 30 inmates, including those accused and convicted in terror-related cases, are housed.
As per the recent media report by TNIE, the drone was lost in the jail premises on December 31st and was spotted by the jail security personnel only eight days later on January 8, exposing the state of security in the jail.
This case has sparked concerns about the safety and security of correctional facilities, particularly about modern technology. Following the 2016 jailbreak by operatives of the banned Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), the Bhopal Central Jail had heightened security measures, including the deployment of Special Armed Forces (SAF) personnel. Notably, two companies of the state police's Special Armed Forces (SAF) were stationed at the jail premises after that incident.
In response to the incident, officials within the Bhopal Jail administration have already requested the city’s police commissioner to increase security around the jail's outer periphery.
