Bhopal Paediatrician found practising at private clinics; licences cancelled
Disciplinary Action Initiated Against Doctor for Unauthorized Private Practice
Bhopal: A government doctor working at the civil hospital in Bairasia has come under scrutiny after he was allegedly found practising at two private clinics in Bhopal, prompting authorities to suspend the clinics’ licences.
The action follows an inspection led by Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr. Manish Sharma at both of his clinics — one in Bachpan and the other at Nirogya — during which it was discovered that a paediatrician posted at the Civil Hospital in Bairasia was practising at a private clinic without prior approval from the department.
In response, the CMHO office issued a notice to both the clinic and the doctor, seeking explanations. However, the clinic failed to provide a satisfactory reply within the stipulated time. As a result, its registration and licence have been cancelled under the Madhya Pradesh Nursing Home and Clinic Establishment Act.

Additionally, the clinic was found in violation of the Madhya Pradesh Nursing Home and Rozotherapy Related Establishments (Registration and Licensing) Act, which prohibits government doctors from offering services at private clinics without explicit permission.
CMHO Dr Manish Sharma said that the licence of the clinic had been cancelled. Dr Pushpendra Chowkikar has also been given a notice in this matter. As per the departmental rules, the process of disciplinary action against him is underway, reports Free Press Journal.
This incident highlights the ongoing efforts by health authorities to enforce ethical and legal compliance in the healthcare sector.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that in a move aimed at regulating private practice by medical officers under the Tripura Health Services (THS), the Governor of Tripura has approved a set of new directives. These guidelines specifically apply to medical officers who have opted for private practice in lieu of receiving the Non-Practising Allowance (NPA).
