Bihar appoints 446 doctors across Government Medical Colleges and Hospitals
Patna: In a move aimed at strengthening specialist healthcare services and medical education, the Bihar government has posted 446 newly appointed senior resident and tutor doctors to government medical colleges and hospitals across the state.
According to the state health department, the appointments have been made based on recommendations from the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (BCECEB). The doctors have been recruited under the Bihar Medical Education Service Rules and will serve a tenure of three years.
The newly appointed doctors represent a wide range of medical specialities, including anaesthesiology, biochemistry, dentistry, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, physical medicine and rehabilitation, along with several other departments. The government expects these appointments to help address the shortage of specialists while also improving teaching and training at medical colleges.
The doctors have been posted to several government medical colleges and hospitals across Bihar, including Patna Medical College and Hospital, Nalanda Medical College and Hospital, Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital, Shrikrishna Medical College and Hospital in Muzaffarpur, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in Bhagalpur, Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital in Gaya, Bhagwan Mahavir Institute of Medical Sciences in Pawapuri, as well as government medical colleges in Purnia, Bettiah and Chhapra.
Appointments have also been made at Shriram Janki Medical College in Samastipur, Jananayak Karpuri Thakur Medical College in Madhepura and other institutions across the state.
Officials said the posting process was carried out in a transparent manner. Before assigning hospitals, doctors were asked to submit their preferred locations. Their choices were considered along with administrative needs and public interest. The department also said that special attention was given to the preferences and requirements of doctors with disabilities.
Speaking to the Times of India, Bihar Health Minister Nishant Kumar said, ''Appointment of 446 senior resident and tutor doctors is a major step towards strengthening specialist care, medical education and training in Bihar's government health institutions''.
The large-scale appointments are expected to improve the availability of specialist doctors in government hospitals while supporting better medical education and patient care across Bihar. With more trained doctors joining public institutions, the state hopes to enhance healthcare services for people in both urban and rural areas.
