BMC Hospital Interns to Get Immediate payment of Hiked Stipend
Mumbai: In a major relief to the interns at the medical colleges run by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), their demands for the immediate payment of the hiked amount of stipend have been met.
Confirming this, Dr. Abhinav Wagh, the former joint secretary of the Association of State Medical Interns (ASMI) wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "Hike Stipend along with the arrears from Feb 2024 of Interns in BMC run Medical Colleges credited as per the demands."
Dr. Wagh also thanked the BMC and the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray for taking up the matter seriously and for immediate action in this regard.
In an X post, Thackeray wrote, "As per the demand of @ASMIMaharashtra @mybmc a resolution has been recently passed to provide increased tuition fee to the inter-resident trainees during the training period in the running medical college. Congratulations!"
Previously, in an earlier post, Dr. Wagh had announced the issuance of the corporation resolution for stipend hike for interns of BMC-run medical and dental colleges.
As per the latest media report by Free Press Journal, last month, the BMC hospital resident doctors received a stipend hike of Rs 10,000 along with an increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) (at par with the government hospital resident doctors). Commenting on the issue, BMC MARD member Dr Akshay More told the Daily, "The BMC-run hospitals' resident doctors received the arrears till August and the resident doctors received revised salaries with DA in September."
Back in May 2024, a group of 803 MBBS interns at BMC Medical Colleges demanded immediate disbursement of their increased stipend warning to go on strike if their demands were not met immediately.
Earlier in February, the State had issued a resolution to increase the stipend for medical interns. Back then, ASMI had pointed out that the State-run medical colleges were already getting increased stipend as per the resolution and had questioned as to why BMC hospital interns were left out.
