CHC Woman doctor abused by JSP Leader

Kakinada: In a disturbing incident at the Prathipadu Community Health Centre (CHC) on International Women’s Day, Jana Sena Party (JSP) chief and Deputy Chief Minister, Konidela Pawan Kalyan, ordered an inquiry following a confrontation between JSP Prathipadu in-charge, Varupula Thammayya Babu, and a woman doctor. Thammayya was subsequently suspended from the party.

The incident occurred when Thammayya, accompanied by his followers, allegedly verbally abused the woman Medical Officer at the CHC. On Saturday, local JSP activists were injured in an accident and were quickly taken to the Prathipadu Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment. While the doctor was attending to the injured, a few local JSP leaders contacted Thammayya to inform him about the situation.

According to the news reports, Thammayya insisted on speaking with the doctor immediately, but she declined, explaining that she was busy attending to the injured. In response, one of the party members conveyed this information to Thammayya, who then went to the CHC to confront the doctor.

Thammayya soon arrived at the CHC and confronted the doctor, allegedly berating her for not responding to his call. Despite her efforts to explain her busy duties, he allegedly refused to listen to her and continued his verbal assault. His followers, who accompanied him, also reportedly scolded and threatened the doctor, further escalating the situation.

The confrontation left the doctor distressed and fearing for her safety. Following this, she promptly reported the incident to the District Coordinator of Hospital Services (DCHS) and Collector Shan Mohan Sagili.

The fact that the confrontation took place on International Women’s Day added to the gravity of the situation, drawing sharp criticism from various political and social groups.
