Chennai inspector suspended for taking Rs 12 lakh bribe from two doctors in POCSO case
Chennai: Holding a woman police inspector responsible for taking bribe during duty hours, the Tamil Nadu police department suspended her on Tuesday. She was accused of allegedly collecting Rs 12.20 lakh from two doctors involved in a POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) case.
It is reported that she allegedly threatened the two doctors about revealing their crime to the media and destroying their reputation if they failed to pay her the money. The inspector allegedly collected the money in exchange for not registering a case against the doctors.
The suspension comes as a result of an internal investigation into the matter. In order to enforce the law and ensure transparency, the police department had taken action against the inspector of Police in the All-Woman Police Station at Guduvancher.

The incident took place after a mother of a minor girl lodged a complaint at the police station about the kidnapping of her daughter. The mother claimed that a man kidnapped her daughter at his house in Tirusulam.
Following this, the woman inspector along with his team formed a search operation, rescued the girl and handed her over to her parents. Later, it was found that the man had a physical relationship with her. As a result, the minor girl became pregnant.
According to the statements of the mother, the girl was forced to undergo a dilation and curettage (D&C) procedure performed by two doctors which includes a government doctor who runs a private clinic and a private doctor, TOI reports.
The woman inspector who was investigating the case went to the doctor's clinic to inquire about the matter based on the mother's complaint. Although the doctors denied performing any such surgeries on the girl, the inspector threatened them and extracted Rs 12.20 lakh from them.
Later, both the doctors filed a complaint against the woman inspector to the senior police officers revealing the bribery case. When the woman inspector was interrogated about the accusations, she accepted and confessed to having taken the money from the doctors.
Meanwhile, the youth who kidnapped the minor girl was arrested under POCSO Act and has been remanded in judicial custody.
