Cotton left inside patient's abdomen during c-section: Govt doctor suspended for alleged medical negligence
Hyderabad: A case of medical negligence has been reported at a Government Hospital in Achampet where cotton swabs were allegedly left inside the abdomen of a pregnant woman after childbirth. Following an inquiry, the doctor who performed the delivery has been suspended.
According to the relatives of the patient, the cotton swabs were allegedly left inside the patient's abdomen after she underwent a C-section delivery at the hospital. As a result, the doctor and his team who performed the delivery became subject to accusations of alleged medical negligence.
The family alleged about the matter after admitting her to a private hospital due to excessive bleeding. The doctors there after conducting several tests on the patient concluded that the cotton swabs were allegedly left inside her abdomen.
In response to this, Health Minister Harish Rao ordered an inquiry into the incident which was carried out by the police commissioner and as a result, the doctor has been suspended.
The incident took place on August 15 when the woman was admitted to the government hospital for childbirth. She underwent a Caesarean section (C-section) and delivered a healthy baby boy. After observing her for three days at the hospital, the doctors discharged her, The Siasat Daily reports.
Soon after she returned home, her condition began deteriorating as she developed difficulties and severe bleeding. She was immediately rushed back to the government hospital where the doctors referred her to a private hospital for better care as her condition was critical.
However, she died on August 22 undergoing treatment at the private hospital due to excessive bleeding. Subsequent examinations found that cotton swabs were allegedly left inside her womb, potentially worsening her health.
Following this, the relatives staged a protest at the Ambedkar Chowrastha in Achampet on Wednesday which lasted for a few hours after Achampet MLA Guvvala Balaraju assured them of strict action against the individual responsible for her death.
A case was registered at the police station based on the complaint of the victim's husband. An investigation is underway.
