Cybercrime: Female doctor harasses fellow doctor by creating bogus FB account
Rajkot: Based on a complaint, the cybercrime police have arrested a woman doctor for allegedly creating a fake social media account and mentally harassing another woman doctor by constantly sending her texts on her social media account.
The accused has been identified as Dr. Unnati Pandya, who works in the ICU department of a private hospital. The victim has been identified as Dr. Rashmi Jiyani, who works in the civil hospital.

The incident occurred when Dr. Pandya created a fake Facebook account and started messaging Dr. Jiyani giving information and sharing her personal life with her. After a few days of talking, the accused started harassing Dr. Jiyani. Later, Dr. Jiyani contacted the cybercrime department after not being able to take any more harassment from the accused and lodged a complaint against Dr. Pandya.
Meanwhile, it came to light that the complainant's husband works in the same department as the accused in the private hospital.

JK Jadeja, investigating officer, told TOI that "the accused had been sending messages since January 17. Dr. Pandya was arrested under sections of I-T Act and later released on bail."
I-T Act is an Act to provide legal recognition for transactions carried out by means of electronic data interchange and other means of electronic communication, commonly referred to as "electronic commerce", which involve the use of alternatives to paper-based methods of communication and storage of information, to facilitate electronic filing of documents with the Government agencies and further to amend the Indian Penal Code, the Indian Evidence Act, 1872, the Bankers' Books Evidence Act, 1891 and the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934 and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

Cybercrime cases in the states/UTs were 21,796 in 2017, 27,248 in 2018, 44735 in 2019, and increased by 11% making it 50035 in 2020. The statistics for 2020 were taken from the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) report "Crime in India, 2020."
