Death of woman, newborn at Hyderabad Hospital; Family alleges medical negligence
Hyderabad: Doctors at a government hospital in Suraram are facing accusations of medical negligence following the death of a woman from an alleged overdose of injections and her newborn baby from an alleged infection due to amniotic fluid.
The family members alleged that the mother and the baby died due to medical negligence and approached the police demanding justice for them.
On June 6, a woman patient who was in labour was admitted to a hospital in Quthbullapur at 6.30 pm. After her delivery, she was given five injections till 4.30 am on Friday. Later, the family received distressing news from the doctors that the baby had passed away due to an infection caused by the amniotic fluid.

After the death of the newborn, the doctors advised the family members to immediately shift her to the hospital in Suraram on Friday. However, she died in the hospital on the same day.
As per the Deccan Chronicle news report, the deceased cousin said, “When my sister was admitted to the Suraram hospital, we didn't know her condition. The doctors created a lot of drama, claiming that she needed immediate surgery and demanding lakhs of rupees. We were doubtful about the treatment they provided. The lady doctor at the Quthbullapur referred her to the Suraram hospital, where her husband is a surgeon. This shows there might be a connection between the two hospitals."
"They killed the baby and my sister by their negligence. This should not happen to any other patients. We demand justice," he added.
Following the incident, a complaint was filed at the police station and Suraram inspector Chinta Shankaraiah said, "A case will be registered. The investigation will proceed based on the post-mortem report."
