Infant dies within 36 hours at Rajkot Civil Hospital, family alleges medical negligence
Rajkot: Doctors and nurses at Janana Hospital, the women and children’s wing of Rajkot Civil Hospital, are facing accusations of medical negligence following the death of a three-month-old baby within 36 hours of admission.
The family of the deceased infant held the doctors and nurses responsible for their son's death and alleged that their son passed away as a result of their negligence.
The medical superintendent of the civil hospital has asked the doctors and the nursing department to submit a report detailing the incident involving the child's death.
As per a TOI news report, the infant was admitted to the hospital on May 19 with complaints of diarrhoea and vomiting. After examination, the doctor found that the child was dehydrated and had a weakened immune system due to his inability to breastfeed.
According to the hospital authorities, the child's health condition started deteriorating leading to convulsions, and he was placed on ventilator support. However, he could not survive despite the treatment and succumbed within 36 hours of admission.
Subsequently, the mother of the infant blamed the doctors and nurses for their negligence towards their son and claimed that his son died of burns in the incubator.
Denying the allegations labelled against the medical staff, R S Trivedi, the civil hospital's medical superintendent, told The Daily, “I have asked the head of the paediatric department and nursing department to submit a detailed report of the incident.”
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that a gynaecologist and two nurses of Wardhannapet Community Health Centre (CHC) booked under IPC 304a after a newborn died following a delivery performed by the nurses with guidance from the gynaecologist over the phone.
