According to Hauz Khas police station sources, the charge sheet is around 6000 pages long. The charge sheet states that the gang had conducted 14-16 transplantations in the last six months.

New Delhi: More than a month after the police arrested ten persons after busting a kidney racket in South Delhi, the police have filed a charge sheet against 11 persons, including two doctors, for running the transplantation racket.

The accused were arrested in June after the police conducted raids in various parts of Delhi and Haryana. They primarily targeted homeless and poor youngsters outside gurdwaras and hospitals. According to Hauz Khas police station sources, the charge sheet is around 6000 pages long.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported about the kidney racket case, which had been busted by the Delhi Police and had led to the arrest of around ten persons, including one anesthetist. Previously, the team had reported about the arrest of the second doctor in connection with the case, 34-year-old Dr. Priyansh Sharma, who was a Delhi-based surgeon.

The charge sheet states that the gang had conducted 14-16 transplantations in the last six months. The investigation was led by a police team led by inspectors Bharat Lal and Rohit, who had been working on the case for weeks before making the arrests.

The two accused doctors have been identified as 37-year-old Sourabh Mittal and 30-year-old Priyansh, who used to work at big hospitals in Delhi but became part of the racket to earn more. The charge sheet states that the doctors were paid Rs 1.5-Rs 2.5 lakh per surgery, reports the Indian Express. There is another accused who is an unqualified doctor whose clinic, Haryana's Gohana, was used to do the illegal transplantation. The fake doctor used to treat patients from his village during the day.

The clinic had two floors where the surgeries were conducted. An officer said, "During further investigation, we recovered biological samples, chemicals, and equipment proving that the surgeries were conducted there." According to video footage, the hospital had clean OT rooms, a dialysis machine, a small lab, and equipment. The officials are waiting for reports from the forensic lab to get more details.

The charge sheet mentions the main accused as 46-year-old Kuldeep Ray, who worked as an OT technician. A police official said, "Ray had been working with other gangs in Rajasthan and Haryana indulging in the same illegal activities. He was inspired by the movie 3 Idiots' and thinks he is a gifted surgeon. Even during interrogation, he didn't show any remorse. He said doctors were only hired to do the side work. All surgeries were performed by him, and he has a 100% success rate."

According to the police, every member of the gang was assigned a specific job. For instance, lab technician Md Lateef worked to get the medical test reports of the donors, whereas agents like Survjeet Jailwal trapped young men in their 20s who lived outside hospitals and gurudwaras. An officer said, "Gang members Shailesh Patel, Vikas, and Ranjit Gupta would help with the accommodation of the donors and would later send them to Gohana for surgery. The accused also put ads on Facebook and conducted seminars to lure doctors and people to join their gang." The officer added, "Many of the accused have applied for bail, but the court rejected it because of the incriminating evidence against them."

Further, the charge sheet mentioned that an anonymous tip-off had taken the police to Jailwal, who was arrested with a donor he had taken to a clinic in Delhi. The charge sheet contained names and statements of some men who were scouted by the gang to sell their kidneys, and the ones who were to kidneys have also been named in the charge sheet and would be reportedly questioned. The receivers of the kidney used to pay Rs 20 lakh-Rs 50 lakh for the organ. Out of that, the doctors were paid Rs 1.5 lakh-Rs 2.5 lakh, the donors were given Rs 1.5 lakh, and the remaining amount was subsequently divided amongst Ray and other gang members.
