Delhi Medical Council gets new 8-member panel after 2026 elections
New Delhi: The much-awaited Delhi Medical Council (DMC) elections 2026 were finally conducted on Sunday, i.e. May 31, 2026, and the results were announced late on Sunday night.
Delhi Medical Council is a Statutory Body under the Delhi Medical Council Act, 1997, and is vested with powers, duties, and functions of regulating the practice of the Modern Scientific System of Medicine in the NCT of Delhi.
Thousands of registered medical practitioners exercised their voting rights at the Delhi Medical Council, Shastri Park, on May 31, 2026, to elect the 8-member panel of the Council. The polling was held from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, followed by the counting of votes.
Among the 38 candidates contesting in the poll, the maximum number of votes has been bagged by Dr. Prakash Lalchandani and Dr. Manjusha Goel. Based on the maximum number of votes secured by the candidates, the following doctors will now form the eight-member panel of the Council:

This year's DMC electoral debate was influenced by allegations of corruption in the previous DMC administration, calls for transparency in the Council, concerns faced by resident doctors, security and safety of healthcare workers, etc.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a plea was filed before the Delhi High Court alleging irregularities and conflict of interest in the conduct of the ongoing Delhi Medical Council (DMC) elections.
The petition was filed against the Government of NCT of Delhi, the Delhi Medical Council, the Delhi Medical Association (DMA), and others under Article 226 of the Constitution. According to the plea, the dispute relates to the DMA-DMC election held on May 17 and the Delhi Medical Council election scheduled for May 31.
The petitioner, who was also a candidate in the elections, alleged that members of the Election Commission were themselves contesting the elections they were supervising. The Delhi High Court has sought responses on the writ petition and listed the matter for hearing on September 29.
Last year, Delhi Medical Council polls were halted after a group of doctors raised serious irregularities in the State Medical Register. Objections regarding the polls were raised by a member of the dissolved executive council of the medical council, who highlighted procedural lapses in a written communication to the Delhi Government and the Lieutenant Governor. Soon afterwards, several senior doctors supported the objections. Following this, the medical institutes were asked not to proceed with their internal voting.
