Delhi: Renowned Urologist and RML hospital Dean tests positive for COVID-19
New Delhi: The Dean of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences at Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital and popular urologist in Delhi, Dr Rajeev Sood has tested positive for the highly contagious novel coronavirus disease, as per recent agency reports.
Dr Rajeev Sood, who is looking after the management of COVID-19 manpower at the hospital, tested positive for the infection on Saturday.
"He is having mild fever, symptoms are not present. He is in home isolation at present. His report came positive on Saturday evening," said the source.
The source also told IANS that the doctor in his 60s is a high risk patient, a known case of Coronary Artery disease with ejection fraction of 30 per cent.
"He doesn't know how he got infected, but it might be from seeing a patient or through hospital staff," said the source, adding, "Contact tracing is underway. The medical fraternity is praying for his speedy recovery."
The RML hospital is the nodal centre for the novel coronavirus cases management in Delhi and the Dean is one of the frontline corona warriors. The Doctor is in-charge of the COVID-19 facilities and facilitating manpower.
He is now under home isolation and contact tracing has been initiated by hospital authorities.
"I have fever and mild upper respiratory infection and got myself tested for COVID-19...it came out positive. I am under home isolation now," Dr Sood, who is also the head of the department of urology, told PTI over phone.
Dr Sood completed his MBBS from Maulana Azad Medical College, MS (General Surgery) from Dr RML Hospital and PGIMER and MCh in Urology from AIIMS. A master specialist in the field of Urology, he was instrumental in the creation of the Department at RML Hospital and has been heading its Urological Services since inception in 1996. He is currently serving as the DEAN, PGI MER, Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, New Delhi as well the newly established Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences at RML hospital
Dr Rajeev Sood was conferred with the prestigious Dr BC Roy Award for the year 2017 by the Medical Council of India (MCI). His contributions to the medical field were recognized under the category of "the best talents in encouraging the development of specialties in different branches of medicine".
