A police officer from Titwala police station told The Free Press Journal, "On November 12, the doctor committed suicide at his residence by hanging himself. Before committing suicide, he informed his wife, who was at her mother's place in Satara. His wife then told her mother about the act, who then informed the family members of the doctor who stay nearby. Before they could reach, the doctor had already committed suicide. He had left a suicide note before committing suicide."
According to sources, the doctor stated in the suicide note that he had found about his wife's relationship with one of her relatives. According to a media report in the Free Press Journal, he had tried to stop the relationship after he found out about it, in order to look after their two kids.
A police officer stated, "But the doctor's wife and her mother insisted him to let the relation go ahead. Further, he was asked not to interfere in the matter. However, the doctor under depression, took the extreme step and committed suicide."
Initially, the police had registered an accidental death report and began their investigation. The Titwala police eventually registered a case against his wife and mother-in-law based on the suicide note they got from the spot.
The case was filed under sections 306 (abatement for suicide) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian penal code by the Titwala police.
The police are verifying the facts and allegations made by the doctor. Meanwhile, the doctor's mother also demanded strict action against those who had urged him to take that step.
