Raipur: Depressed over the delay in completing his PG internship, a 25-year-old medico allegedly committed suicide by medicine overdose in his hostel room on the campus of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Raipur.
According to the media reports, the deceased was an MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) PG intern, a native of Odisha's Bhubaneswar who was doing his PG internship with the 2019 batch despite being in the 2018 batch since he could not clear the exam which left him depressed. He was undergoing treatment for depression and took medicines.
As per the police, a preliminary investigation suggested that the medico was undergoing treatment for depression as he had not completed his PG internship since last year.

Although Prima facie, it seems he took an overdose of medicines, the exact cause of the death will be ascertained after receiving the post-mortem report. No suicide note was recovered from his room.
The incident reportedly happened on Tuesday when some of his friends went to his room to check on him as he had not been seen for some time. As per the TOI news report, his friends noticed that the door was locked from the inside and he did not respond to their knocks on the door. Following this, they became worried and broke the door open.
After entering the room, they found him unconscious at the boys' hostel on the institute's campus located in Amanaka police station limits. Following this, they immediately alerted the hostel warden. By the time the doctors examined him, he was already dead.
After being alerted, the police reached the spot and handed over the body to the family members after post-mortem, an official told PTI.
Police have registered a case under relevant provisions and a probe was on into it, the official added.
