Depressed over relationship, BAMS doctor kills self with poison injection
Ahmedabad: In an unfortunate incident, a 32-year-old Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) doctor posted at a private hospital in the city allegedly committed suicide by injecting herself with a lethal jab on Wednesday.
She was found dead in the afternoon lying on a bench on the premises of the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) headquarters at Gaekwad Haveli in Ahmedabad’s Jamalpur.
According to the police, the deceased also a postgraduate student was reportedly involved in a romantic relationship with an officer from the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch. Nevertheless, she was facing difficulties in her relationship with the officer over the last few months, as stated in her suicide note that was found in her bag.

The suicide note, which is 15 pages long, contains detailed information about their relationship and the difficulties she was encountering. It revealed that she was depressed over her relationship and conveyed her decision to take her own life due to her frustration with the officer.
Sharing the details, Investigating officer ACP Hirendra Chaudhary told India Today, "The doctor was in a relationship with the inspector for the past four to five years. There was a rift in their relationship over the past few months and the doctor was depressed."
According to a TOI news report, the doctor allegedly made multiple attempts to contact the officer for two weeks. She then threatened to harm herself if the officer did not agree to meet with her. Eventually, they met on Wednesday, but unfortunately, the doctor ended her own life shortly after their meeting.
She sat on the bench inside the premises of the DCB headquarters and injected herself with poison. A passerby near the area spotted her lifeless body between 4 pm and 4.30 pm and immediately alerted the police.
Upon receiving the report, the police reached the spot, called an ambulance and conducted a preliminary investigation. During the investigation, the police recovered the suicide note from her bag which gave them insights into her death. Afterwards, they sent her body for a postmortem examination and later handed over the body to her family members.
The doctor is survived by her mother and two sisters—one residing in Vadodara and the other in Canada. Following her death, a case was registered at the police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Police inspector R H Bhati said, “The case is under investigation, and we cannot speculate on anyone’s involvement at this stage. Police will file a complaint of abetment to suicide against the officer on Thursday."
