Dhanbad doctor cheated of Rs 15 Lakh in hospital empanelment fraud

Dhanbad: In a shocking incident, a doctor running a private hospital in Dhanbad has alleged that he was duped of nearly Rs 15 lakh by a man who promised to secure empanelment and approvals from various government and private agencies using forged documents and fake certificates.

The victim lodged a written complaint at the Dhanbad Police Station against the accused, a resident of Manoram Nagar, who submitted fake certificates and regulatory documents related to hospital approvals.

According to the complaint, the accused was introduced to the hospital management by two individuals, who were reportedly associated with the hospital. During meetings, the accused allegedly claimed that he had expertise in facilitating hospital tie-ups and obtaining certifications from multiple organisations and agencies.

Trusting his assurances, the hospital management entrusted him with the responsibility of securing approvals and empanelments. The accused allegedly promised to secure empanelment and approvals from various institutions, including railways, BCCL, DGMS, and other agencies.

The accused reportedly collected around Rs 15 lakh from the hospital management in several phases.

After some time, the accused allegedly submitted several empanelment and certification documents to the hospital authorities. Among them was a certificate related to the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, which regulates prenatal diagnostic procedures.

Believing the documents to be genuine, the hospital management reportedly submitted them to concerned agencies and companies. The fraud surfaced when he was summoned to the Dhanbad civil surgeon’s office, where officials informed him that the PCPNDT certificate was fake. “All the certificates were found fake after inquiry,” said the doctor, reports TOI.

Officer-in-charge Manoj Pandey of Dhanbad police station confirmed that an investigation into the case is underway. Meanwhile, Civil Surgeon Dr Alok Vishwakarma has formed a committee to probe the fake PCPNDT certificate and verify other documents allegedly submitted by the accused.
