Dhanbad Nephrologist receives death threat outside ICU; FIR registered

Doctor
Dhanbad: A nephrologist running a private clinic in Dhanbad has allegedly received a death threat after a handwritten warning letter was found pasted outside the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of his facility, raising concerns about the safety of doctors in clinical practice.
The incident took place at Kidney Care Clinic, operated by Dr Kumar at Mahakaleshwar Complex near Birsa Munda Park in the Nawadih area. The threatening letter was reportedly discovered late on the night of February 9 outside the ICU, causing panic in the surrounding locality.
According to the Times of India, Dr Kumar lodged a written complaint at Dhanbad police station, following which an FIR was registered against unidentified persons. In his complaint, he stated that a clinic staff member first noticed the letter pasted on the ICU door. The placement of the threat outside a critical care unit has drawn special attention within the medical community, as ICUs require uninterrupted patient care and strict access control.
The message warned the doctor that he was “lucky to have survived earlier due to being in a group,” and suggested that otherwise he would have been shot. The note further stated that he would be killed and warned him not to take the threat lightly. He has expressed apprehension that the threat may be linked to an extortion attempt.
Confirming the development, Dhanbad police station in-charge Manoj Pandey told the Times of India that a case has been registered based on the doctor’s written complaint and that the police are treating the matter seriously. “CCTV footage installed inside and outside the clinic is being examined to identify the person who pasted the threatening letter,” he said.
The incident has once again highlighted security concerns faced by doctors running private healthcare facilities, particularly those handling critically ill patients in ICU settings.
