Bhubaneswar: Nearly six years after the shutdown of Ayush Hospital and Trauma Care in Bhubaneswar, the private hospital Director has been arrested in connection with a case registered under the Negotiable Instruments (NI) Act.
The action was taken in accordance with the court's directive. As per Sambad report, the Commissionerate police arrested the doctor based on two non-bailable warrants issued by the court under the NI Act.
Considering the charges made against the director, the court issued permission to the police to apprehend the accused immediately. Following this, a team from Nayapalli police station arrested the director on Monday.

The Negotiable Instruments (NI) Act is a law concerning all negotiable instruments, i.e., promissory notes, bills of exchange, and cheques. The word instrument states a document transferable from one party to another.
The history of the closure of the hospital dates back to June 2016 when a State-level inspection team, led by the joint Director of Medical Education and Training (DMET) raided the 120-bed six-storey private hospital at Acharya Vihar.
While conducting the raid, the team found several discrepancies pertaining to health services. According to the TNIE report, the hospital had no proper waste disposal system and lacked the capability to deal with fire mishaps.
During the raid, only five patients, including one in the ICU, were spotted in the hospital while beds were found in unhygienic conditions.
Joint DMET Umakanta Satapathy said, “In contravention of Odisha Clinical Establishment Act, doctors and the required number of staff were absent while some persons, who identified themselves as pharmacists, could not tell about life-saving drugs.”
Satapathy also added that the hospital was unfit to treat any patient. Therefore, the shut down of the hospital was recommended.
