According to police, the accused had brought his mother to the hospital to have her blood pressure checked. During the visit, he allegedly shouted at a nurse and demanded that she check his mother’s blood pressure immediately. He also allegedly abused the nurse.
When the doctor intervened and advised the accused not to shout inside the hospital, explaining that it was a place where patients were receiving treatment, he allegedly left the premises with his mother.
However, the accused reportedly returned to the hospital with two other persons and allegedly abused the doctor and two nurses. He also threatened the hospital staff before leaving the scene, police sources said.
The doctor lodged a complaint with the Thirukattupalli police station, where a case was booked against the accused under various sections of the BNS, besides under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act and the Tamil Nadu Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss to Property) Act, reports the Hindu.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the importance of ensuring a safe working environment for doctors, nurses and other healthcare personnel. Further details of the investigation were not immediately available.
