Doctor accused in sexual harassment case granted bail
Mangaluru: A nodal leprosy officer who was arrested for allegedly sexually harassing women employees at the workplace was released on bail on Monday.
The advocate representing the government doctor, N Narasimha Hegde stated that the III JMFC court granted bail to the doctor on the ground that none of the aggrieved had filed a complaint against him, and it was filed by someone who had no direct connection with the case.
The videos and pictures of the doctor harassing his colleagues had gone viral on the internet last Friday. Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that a case was filed against the medical officer by a representative of a women's organization on November 26.

The videos and photos revealed that he had sexually harassed around eight women employees, after taking them to various places like Kundapur, Murudeshwar , Madikeri, Piriyapatna, which was recorded on a video that got leaked. The city police commissioner had confirmed the arrest of the doctor and added that he was produced before a court that put him into two days police custody.
The police had also recorded the statement of a member of the internal complaints committee, and three survivors. The survivors had stated that the doctor targeted them if they refused to cooperate with him. They had told the police that he forcefully took them on tour and forced them to 'pose' for photographs.
Initially, the women doctors were not ready to file a complaint against the harasser, since many of them were working on a contract basis, and they believed the doctor to be powerful. However, they had agreed to give their statements before a magistrate if a case was filed against the doctor.
As per a recent media report in Times of India, the doctor arrested in the case was recently granted bail. Hegde, representing the doctor added in his submission before the court that since he is a government doctor, his services are needed.
