Doctor Caught on Camera snorting drugs, assaulting woman; Probe ordered

Jalandhar: A shocking video showing a doctor allegedly consuming drugs during duty hours at a private hospital in Jalandhar has gone viral on social media, prompting immediate action from the Punjab government. Another viral CCTV clip reportedly captures the same doctor allegedly assaulting a woman.
According to media reports, the first video appears to show the doctor using a credit or debit card to crush a white powdery substance and then sniffing it. The video, reportedly filmed secretly by a woman, captures the doctor initially protesting and attempting to stop her from recording. When she refused, he is seen snatching the phone, abruptly ending the recording. In the second viral CCTV footage, the same doctor is allegedly seen slapping a woman in front of bystanders.

These incidents reportedly took place in Dasuya, Hoshiarpur, though the doctor is said to be employed at a private hospital in Jalandhar, as per TrueCoopNews. Following the circulation of both videos, Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh ordered an immediate investigation into the matter.
Speaking to the media in Jalandhar on Thursday morning, Dr Balbir confirmed that he has directed officials to conduct a thorough inquiry with Civil Surgeon Dr Gurmeet Lal and Rama Mandi police leading the investigation.
Assuring that strict action would be taken against the doctor, he told HT, “The Punjab government maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards drugs, regardless of who is involved."
Further, the Health Department has been asked to depute a drug inspector to carry out sampling and to assist in the probe.
Talking to The Tribune, Balbir Singh said, “An inquiry is already in progress. The scourge of drugs isn’t associated with any community or class of people. It affects youngsters the most, but it could affect anyone... I had marked a police and departmental inquiry almost immediately after the video came to my notice.”
The minister also appreciated the role of the media in highlighting the issue and helping bring it to the government’s attention. He reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining ethical conduct within the healthcare system and ensuring public safety, especially in government institutions.
